This album was a fun listen. As someone who had never heard of Nothing But Thieves before a friend had shared them, I had no idea what I was getting into. This album proved to be an introduction to a fun, upbeat and truly authentic English group that likely has more great music for us to check out.

This album features playful instrumentation, vocals that remind you of simpler times, and themes that will remind you this album was released during the summer any time you go back and play it.

Welcome to the DCC

Maybe it's the guitar. Or maybe it's the vocals. I am not sure what it is, but the enrgy this song kicks off this album with hooked me. I prefer to listen to albums over individual songs anyways, so the vibe this song kicked off this album with had me hooked.

Overcome

Imagine the windows down, you are heading out on a long weekend vacation, the week leading up to this trip was hell. For some reason, I feel that embodied in this song. Its upbeat and positive, speaking of the good to come, and leaving everything else behind us.

Tomorrow Is Closed

This track sounds and feels like the last song at the end of a great movie about people that have had ups and downs but came out on top. Quite possibly a theme of this album, or at least a feeling carried throughout.

Keeping You Around

The first song I was shared from NBT, this track is easily one of the best on the album. The creativity in vocals, tones, and pitch compile into a great sound profile. While this is song slows down the tempo of the earlier tracks a bit, I found it perfectly placed.

City Haunts

Not since my late high school years listenting to La Roux at a friends house have I heard vocals quite like this that I have enjoyed. The synth sounds definitely help to carry this track, but the vocals are well done for the song and pay nice compliments.

Do You Love Me Yet?

By this track I am fully time traveled to a time before my own, and I love it. While absolutely not my usual type of music, there is something so refreshing about their sound and I think this song easily makes the top 3.

Members Only

Getting a bit more raw in the sound profile, this track's grittier feel concerned me at first. However, the guitars and drums saved the day. The vocals did the lyrics justice and while this song feels a bit misplaced to this point in the album, it was a great change of pace that I think they are cleverly using throughout the album to control the up and down that makes any rollercoaster worth riding, or album worth listening.

Green Eyes :: Siena

Despite some of the other track titles, I would consider this song the closest to a love song. This is the song they play at a movie about a high-school prom. Another example of quite the shift of pace after the last track, and another time I think it worked perfectly.

Foreign Language

I cannot put my finger on what I like the most in this song. I think it is the vocals and the anthemic build that carries throughout. If you dive into the lyrics, you find some joy in hearing the story of two people who are love drunk.

Talking To Myself

I think the title of this track is perfect. Carrying the theme of the back and forth we all have in our heads for any given topic, including those we love. This slower song, and knowing the theme, makes me assume we are getting ready to go out on a banger in the last track. Let's see..

Pop The Balloon

...Nailed it. This is just the vibe I expected to close this album out. Gritty, upbeat, with great drums and guitars. The slight vocals mixed with synths create the movie soundtrack close to this album that it deserved.

The song feels like a bonus when you catch the shift in energy and tempo half way through. Excellent close.
