Everyone's view from their porch is different. Even your neighbor looks out and sees things different than you just a house over. Every porch provides different lessons, different conversations, different circumstances, different opportunity, yet in many ways every porch is fundamentally similar.

"As the demons lurk below the steps, the angels peak above. But we're too fixated on this motherf*ckin' porch to receive the love. Nitpickin' each difference from each stoop or step. While ignorin' the fact that the view from the roof is best." - Dirty Dell, Porch Steps!

With this album, we get to visit REASON from his porch in Carson, California. So many of the tracks on the album felt like the stories told on a porch, the things he might have saw once he jumped off it, the feelings running back to it, and how it all shaped his perspectives and perception of the world around him.

The theme and imagery REASON drives around the concept of something as simple as a porch was so well painted in this album. Each verse a different brush stroke painting his story and sticking to the storyline. The album bounces from upbeat fun tracks that you can play at any given time to songs that will have you replaying and thinking on every word he said, appreciating the art and artist.

In the songXsong breakdown, available to free and paid members (and everyone for a limited time), I will dive into what makes each song great individually and highlight my top 3 tracks and honorable mentions. Enjoy!

Faded off Poor n Riches! (feat. London Monet)

The opening track of the album, you feel immediately dropped onto the porch in Carson, Cali with the sounds surrounding, and the beat building. REASON breaks onto the track in an almost monologue delivery.

This track felt like the canvas for the entire album, setting the tone, shaping the direction, and forcing us to visit REASON on the porch and sit down to hear his story.

Caucasian Estates!

This instrumental is one of my favorite on the album, and helped earn it a nod as a top track of mine for the album. At under 2 minutes in length the only thing I wanted more from this song is a longer runtime. The beat is not overly complex, just assisted by great bass and lyrics that punch in the pocket and make it sound like a surefire radio hit.

At It Again

REASON is an artist that even on a song like this that you can put on your drive playlist when you need to just set a vibe, you could also listen to this with the lyrics on and catch so many other gem lyrics that you missed while just hearing it played other times. This song exemplifies that, great vibes, hidden gem lyrics, and capable of landing on any playlist.

A Broken Winter Break! (feat. SiR & Kiilyn)

This song is great at carrying the "porch" theme and is such a great story telling listen. The entire song is a perfect example of less is more. The energy is even keel and the beat doesn't do any more than is needed, but the value this song has hidden in the lyrics and feel are top tier.

You Betta (Jesus Take The Wheel)

This song feels like an upbeat baton from the past few, carrying the good vibes that have kicked off this album. Feeling like a night on and off the porch having drinks and a general good time, this feel good track is likely to be a favorite for party playlists.

Send You 2 The Afterlife!

A stark shift in energy from the last track, this track's energy is heavy on content but the Three 6 Mafia-esque beat pairs well and gives this track a cinematic feel like you are riding in the car along with him. In the last minute of the track REASON switches flow and absolutely slides to close out the song.

Call Me! (feat. Junii)

This is a headphones lyrics on type of track. You need to listen as much as hear what REASON says on this one. The instrumental provides just enough to let the lyrics take the focus they deserve.

Tackling the concept of what the world might call us, and how we handle everything that comes with what the world might label us, this track is definitely worth the attention to the lyrics.

Gang Shit!

Don't let the track name prejudice what you think this track might sound like. This track is beautiful. A twist on what you might think, REASON tackles the idea of loyalty, pressure and expectations, and having the self-awareness to know that others around you are probably feeling the same.

Another track to listen with the headphones and lyrics on. While backed by a simple beat, the energy and feeling in REASON's voice in this track really makes you feel the place he is coming from on this one.

FTN! (feat. Baby Tate & Junii)

The piano play on this album has been a highlight despite me not mentioning it directly up to this point. On this track, it really shines and adds the dimension needed for this track for the ladies.

Gina! (August Alsina)

Between the title and the reading between the lines to the punches throughout this track, you can understand why the beat is as gritty as it is as on this track. REASON is throwing haymakers and his delivery is as energetic on this track as it is on any track on this album.

It has been amazing to see how many styles he has delivered on this album. Not that it is unexpected, but worthy of note and appreciation.

Too Much! (Melly Mel)

"Look I feel like I think too much". That set the tone for this track at the very start. From that line he builds as the song goes and the introspective track keeps that energy going throughout.

The story shared at the end of this track hit heavy over the piano that has blessed us on this album. Please listen to this track at least once with headphones. Like stated earlier, everyone's view from the porch is different, but we can all listen to a track like this and find value and an appreciation for the sharing of the view from his own porch.

Bussin! (WB Pt.2) [feat. Ray Vaughn]

One thing I appreciate about this album is the change of pace and energy as the tracks move from one to the next. It better fits the ebbs and flows of life, and provides a better start to finish listening experience.

This track bounces back from the serious tone of the last few with a uplifted beat, ferocious feature from Ray Vaughn, and a song I am certain ends up used as background audio in social media posts soon enough.

Rich Mirages! (feat. Flozigg)

This song is my favorite on the album. The flow and break at 1:20, the entire vibe and feel of this track, the feature from Flozigg, this track is a gem. REASON's flow is precise and pairs so well with this beat, and the production on this track is top tier.

As the track plays on you understand that he is reflecting on his life now versus what his life was imagined to be before the fame and success. The self-awareness and looking within on this album has been beautifully displayed, but especially shines on this track.

I Don't Trust You! (feat. Doechii & Junii)

This song carries the baton from the last so well. The vibe is not a complete mirror, but is a great transition. I can tell this album is going to spin beautifully on vinyl (REASON has confirmed a vinyl release).

Doechii delivers a beautiful verse on the track and compliments this beat and REASON's verse so well. Though not quite a "back and forth" between them, the production and placement of their verses on the track are masterful.

Family First! (feat. Kalan.FrFr, SiR & Zacari)

Enlisting so much of the TDE roster on one track, the title of this song is fitting, regardless of the content. That said, the lyrics and theme of this song hammers everything home. This is a great feeling track, though I wanted something more defined SiR when I saw his name, I will settle for going back and listening to "Chasing Summer" after I finish this album.

Porch Steps! (feat. Junii & Dirty Dell)

This song is another for the headphones, and to listen to with attention. What I find the most beautiful about this song is the message within. There is plenty of positivity in this track. I am a bit surprised this was not the closing track to the album and look forward to hearing how REASON chooses to close the album on the next track instead.

Poster Child!

I take back what I said in the last song, I like the feeling of this as the closing track. If you can listen and follow along with the lyrics of this track, I think it makes most sense.

A poster child for the life he lived, one that only those who grew up on similar porches might understand, REASON highlighted all of the things he saw that he was a poster child for many of the things that could have haunted him but also that he learned from and grew from, and was motivated by.

"Them porches wasn't luxury, but gave me a perspective thick as glue and so it stuck with me".
